SR Team Interviews: DJ Buggy!

A news article.

Interview O'clock

Hi! This is DJ Storm Shadow, I'm the host of the Mystical Monday Show, and its very new segment called "Team Interviews". This is where we take a closer look at one of our team members every week. The interview itself is divided into two separate parts: on air, and on the website. Due to time limitations, only 5 questions are answered on the show itself, but there are 20 other questions in the interview itself, which are always posted on our website.

Team Interviews are a fun way of getting to know all the people behind Simulator Radio, the people that help run this radio station day by day and that dedicate their time and effort into hosting shows or making sure everything stays how it's supposed to be. I hope that with this new feature, we will all have a bit of fun, but ultimately get to know each other better as a team as well.

THIS WEEK ON THE INTERVIEW

What artist would we be surprised to find on your personal playlist?

Tough question, I like a lot of music. I have a very eclectic taste… Let’s have a look… I don’t know… Olafur Arnalds, maybe? Although I just like the one song of him called This Place Is A Shelter… hmm… Oh, I know!

Rebirth Brass Band.

Yep, I do love me some music from New Orleans!

What’s your guilty pleasure song?

Guilty pleasures… hmmm… Anything by Steps, really? Is that too obvious? Okay… let’s find something more… obscure.

When I was a teenager, a band called --- Nope. Let’s not go there. They still make my mum run out the store when it’s on the radio.

Ah… The End Of The World by McFly. Great tune. They tried something different for the album it was from and it wasn’t for everyone, but they’re using a riff from Jeff Wayne’s Eve of the War. It’s so good.

What made you want to become a DJ?

Ah, basically my dad? I didn’t think it was for me, but after hanging out with a few of his shows, he asked me to take over his shows a few times at the local radio station. I was a bit annoyed that I had to bring my own music and thus had to buy my own CDs so I basically used my dad’s extensive library to make my shows with.

If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?

If I could sing, I’d sing… I’m me by Us the Duo.

What’s your DJ setup?

I use RadioBoss, at this point some earbuds and my Blue Yeti mic on a mic stand (due to the vibrations on my desk). My computer has two screens, so I have my software on one screen and all the other things I need on the other. I use my stream deck to toggle on my mic in RadioBoss to reduce mouse clicks.

What’s the one track that never gets old for you?

I get bored pretty easily though. Hmm… Don’t worry be happy by Bobby McFerrin.

Name one song that got popular but you can’t stand?

Oh boy. Can I use a genre? Because all the electronic stuff sounds the same to me…

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves in your body, what would they do first?

Cuddle the cat. Then likely find the shops, and buy myself a doll buggy for my doll, then buy tons of sweets and chocolate milk with the cash I have left in my wallet.

Five-year-old me was very frustrated that I wasn’t allowed to have a buggy for my doll!

(And no, that’s NOT where my name came from!)

Favourite flavor of ice cream?

Definitely not vanilla. Maybe stracciatella which is vanilla with chocolate all through the ice cream. Pistachio is nice too. Banana ice cream… chocolate ice cream… yum.

Favourite meal?

Over here we have a meal that consists of mashed carrots, mashed onions and mashed potatoes all mashed together. I like it with some gravy and chicken breast.

Most beautiful place you’ve been to?

I don’t do aesthetics much. I mean… I was very impressed with the Monza National Park in Italy but I went there for a Formula 1 race, not to see the view. Or with all the ships in the harbor of Marseille in France, but I didn’t linger much as I was there for a convention. York in the UK was cute. As was Dublin, but beautiful? Not really.

Oh! On our trip to Italy, we went by car and there’s this huge tunnel called the Gotthard tunnel we had to drive through in Switzerland. On our way back, we went over it and stopped at the top of the mountain. Now, that was beautiful. The view was simply breathtaking and not just because you were that high up in the atmosphere :) And because I just saw this picture again... I'll show you one from one where we stopped on our way to Italy in Switzerland.

Pizza, pineapple or no pineapple?

Let me be controversial and say… no pizza. Honestly, I don’t like pizza. I even tried one in Italy but nope. Keep that pizza far away from me.

Dogs or cats? Do you have any pets?

Both. I’m a dog and cat person. I have a cat called Moggy. A dog is simply too expensive.

Youtube or twitch?

Eh… I’m a twitch streamer and I do enjoy watching my friends. Their streams are interesting and entertaining to watch. I’ve subscribed to a few things on youtube, but that’s usually cooking videos or related to music and musicals.

Operating systems - PC/Mac, iOS/Android?

PC, hands down. iOS, hands down. Android is soooo confusing! But, I know that I’ll eventually have to go to Android for my phone because I prefer having a headphone jack!

Seaside or mountains? Elaborate?

Seaside. We don’t have mountains where I’m from! I used to live 10 minutes away from the beach by bike, and never went there because I don’t like the sand, but sometimes we took my mum’s dog there to have fun. It’s a sacrifice I was willing to make because the dog was so happy when we took her!

Favourite sport to play/watch?

When I was younger, I did a lot of horseback riding. Now I just love to watch Formula 1 on the telly.

Favourite color?

Purple.

Favourite drink?

Peach Iced Tea.

TV shows or movies?

Tough one. But I think I have to choose for TV shows as that’s what I watch the most. Currently: NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, Bull, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl. Things I go back for: The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Sanctuary, Stargate Atlantis (and okay, Airwolf has a soft spot in my heart still :))

Is a hotdog a sandwich?

NO! It’s a bun you slice open, and when done correctly it’s not all the way through so no separate parts.
